Grammar Stage (Ages 8–11)
In the Grammar stage, students meet twice weekly for focused discussions across subjects – including science and early research skills – building attention, strong habits, and a solid foundation for every kind of learner. Mentors guide students through key concepts while encouraging curiosity and participation alongside peers.
In the Dialectic stage, live weekly sessions sharpen logic, analysis, and evidence-based thinking – skills that matter as much in science and research as anywhere else. Students learn to ask strong questions, compare ideas, and back up their reasoning as mentors guide deeper engagement with the curriculum and peer discussion.
In the Rhetoric stage, students engage in extended, discussion-based weekly sessions that strengthen critical thinking, research, and clear communication – whether they’re defending a scientific claim, analyzing a text, or presenting an original project. Mentors facilitate rigorous dialogue while students take ownership of their ideas alongside peers.
Classical education is organized by developmental stage rather than strict grade level. While many families use traditional grade numbers for reference, the Grammar, Dialectic, and Rhetoric stages reflect how students naturally grow in their ability to learn, reason, and communicate.

Placement is based on age and developmental stage, not academic level – the content within each stage flexes up or down to meet your child academically. What matters more is the social dynamic of a live discussion: kids connect more naturally with peers their own age, whether they’re working ahead, right on level, or still building confidence academically.
“Our family is so blessed to have found GCE. I have 2 children in the Rhetoric 3 class, 1 in Dialectic 1, and 2 children in the Grammar classes, and it has been a game changer for us. They provide an agenda with instruction and good discussion in the classes, but it is still up to me how we structure our week and there is no guilt if we don’t get to something or change something to fit us. I am grateful that they have come alongside me in my homeschool journey!!”
